Fun Fact

Pasadena is home to hundreds of wild parrots. You will often hear or see a pandemonium of parrots flying overhead or eating fruit in a large neighborhood tree. A pet shop caught on fire in the 1960’s and the birds were either set free or escaped. Either way they have been thriving and if you pay attention you’ll see them while visiting the area.

Book now before TOT

Like most cities across the country, Pasadena is working on regulating rentals like the Bungalow.  It is nearly certain that the city will be requiring a 15% transitory occupancy tax, as they do hotels.  They are also proposing limiting the availability for short term rentals.   Book now, before all that takes place, and save money!

Pasadena City Hall

The Pasadena City Hall is one of the most architecturally stunning areas of Pasadena.  The broad intersection at Garfield and Holly, in front of the city hall, with the library and mountains to the north, and the civic center to the south, has a majestic and European feel.  Walking under the dome and into the the courtyard, with the center fountain, I marvel at the craftsmanship of the early 1920’s.

The Jackie and Mac Robinson statues are just to the west of City Hall.  Jackie Robinson, #42, was from Pasadena.   Plaza las Fuentes is just to the east, with colorful-tiled fountains.  Both are fun to see and walk through.   This area is a block north of the Paseo Colorado, an outdoor mall, and not far from Old Town.  The main library, at Walnut and Garfield, is an architectural gem.  There are ruins from the original library at the corner of Walnut and Raymond, in Memorial Park.

Top-Ten Day Trips from The Bungalow #2 – The Beach

Here’s the second installment of the Top-Ten Day Trips from The Bungalow

With August upon us and September coming up, I’m thinking head for the beach.  September can be the hottest month in Southern California, so for anyone visiting this time of year, a trip to the beach can a perfect way to cool down and enjoy some sun, sand, and surf.

There are many great beaches to choose from, but the closest, and easiest to park, as well as most well known is Santa Monica beach and adjacent Venice Beach (aka Muscle Beach).

This wide stretch of sand is easy to get to, and although you will have to pay for parking, you’re nearly guaranteed a spot just steps from the life guard towers.    Take the foot path – or bike path – down a ways you enter the wild and crazy Venice Beach, known for all sorts of stuff (for lack of better word.)  And, if you head north, you’ll hit the Santa Monica pier and Pacific Park.  Truly, there is something for everyone at this beach.  Just bring your sunscreen!

5-Star Review: An extended stay at the lovely Bungalow

Sorry for the shameless, self-promotion, but an amazing 5-star review came in a while back, and I just can’t keep it in anymore.  I truly enjoy making people’s stay enjoyable and easy.  Pasadena is an amazing city, and I want to share it!

We spent 5 weeks at the Bungalow so it truly was a home away from home. It was an absolutely perfect place for our extended stay – charming, comfortable, pristine, well-appointed and homey. The outdoor patio area was quiet and lovely — with a canopy of gorgeous Bougainvillea in full bloom, and shaded seating, it was our go-to place for the start and the end of the day. The location was ideal, with easy walk to stores, restaurants, and movie theaters, and easy access to local sights and major roads. Bonnie is a gem: she was readily available and extremely helpful. She did everything possible to make our stay a wonderful one. I would love to return if the opportunity should arise, and without question can give the Bungalow the highest recommendation.
